There are so many experts in educational marketing and branding, its great to learn and pull from their ideas. I have seen many over the years that I have worked with in the college and private schools space. Part of the challenge in being one of the first SEO consultants for private schools, is that you are explaining and teaching clients about SEO as much as you are working to get them results. In the beginning this was more of a challenge, but the private and independent school marketers are a smart set and they pick things up quickly. I have worked with some of the most prestigious private and independent schools and many times there is someone that “knows SEO.” It might be a marketer or communications director or even a vendor that manages the school’s website infrastructure or even a parent on a committee. “Isn’t this just meta-tags,” is often thrown around. It’s a lot more than that – keywords and title tags are important and have potential to impact lead generation but the content that your school creates and the way that you spread that content out over social media is important now too. In many ways SEO for schools used to be a project based activity and now it’s something that as more schools adopt it and compete, the more you need to do on a monthly basis. So they next time you talk SEO with someone who “knows SEO,” listen closely to what they are saying, and then call me if you have any questions. Francis McGovern 617-816-2969
